Submission of Applications :-

 

  • The duly completed application should be sent directly to the Controller General of Immigration & Emigration or to this Mission.
  • Application may be submitted in person or by post.

 

Instructions for the submission of Dual Citizenship Applications Through High Commission of Sri Lanka - London

Important Information

The originals and a set of photocopies in each of the below requested documents are required seperately for each applicant.

Photocopies will be certified by the High Commission after perusal of the originals

English Translations of British /Marriage Certificates will not be Accepted.

A non-refundable Dual citizenship processing fee of GBP15 is to be paid by cash at the counter.

Note: If Applying through Post, Postal order in favour of High Commssion of Sri Lanka alsong with prepaid special delivery envelopes (to return all originals) to be attached with each appliction.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Affidavit should be certified by the High Commission or a Solicitor / Commissioner for Oaths in the UK.

 

 The Documentary Requirements for Applications for dual citizenship

 1.   Document Check List for the RESUMPTION of Sri Lankan Citizenship

  • Duly completed application form
  • Three (3) passport-sized colour photographs with white background

Note: Photographs should not show applicant in sleeveless or revealing attire and eyeglasses should be removed.

  • Original Birth Certificate

Note: If the applicant was born outside Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Citizenship Certificate registered under section 5(2) of Citizenship Act should be submitted

  • British / Irish Naturalisation Certificate
  • Bio Data and the Observation pages of British/Irish Passport
  • Bio Data & Observation pages of Sri Lankan Passport

Note: if not available, a letter of explanation to that affects

  • Police Clearance Certificate

Note: for the applicants above 16 years of age
Obtained within last 3 months

  • Original Marriage Certificate

Note: for Married Applicants

  • Dual Citizenship Certificate of Parent/Spouse

Note: When applying as a Dependant of a Dual Citizen

Additionally Following Original Documents are required under Appropriate Qualifying Category

1. Age

  • Original Birth Certificate

2. Academic / Professional:

  • Academic – Proof of One Year Diploma or above (Original certificate issued by a recognised University).

OR

  • Professional -The Original Membership / Award Certificate issued by the Professional Body.

Note:

  1. The High Commission reserve the right to request for an authenticated copy of Applicant’s Academic/Professional Certificates issued in the UK from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
  2. Certificates, issued in countries other than Sri Lanka and the UK, should be attested by the Sri Lanka High Commission / Embassy accredited to that country or by the Diplomatic Mission of the said country based in London.

3. Assets:

  • Original Deed
  • Valuation Report issued by a Licensed Valuer in Sri Lanka
  • The Title Report for the past 30 years issued by a Notary Republic in Sri Lanka
  • Title Extract obtained from the Land Registry of Sri Lanka

4. Fixed Deposit:

  • Letter from the Bank Confirming The existence of the Fixed Deposit for the minimum of 3 years ahead from the date of the Dual Citizenship Application

5. Investment:

  • Proof of Treasury bond or Security Investment Account existence for the minimum of 3 years ahead from the date of the Dual Citizenship Application

 

2.  Document Check List for the RETENTION of Sri Lanka Citizenship

  • Duly completed application form
  • Three (3) passport-sized colour photographs with white background

Note: Photographs should not show applicant in sleeveless or revealing attire and eyeglasses should be removed.

  • Original Birth Certificate

Note: If the applicant was born outside Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Citizenship Certificate registered under section 5(2) of Citizenship Act should be submitted

  • British / Irish Permanent Resident Card
  • Bio Data & Observation pages of Sri Lankan Passport

Note: if not available, a letter of explanation to that affects

  • Recent Police Clearance Certificate
