|Deepavali celebrated in London|

Deepavali, 'The Festival of Lights' was celebrated at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London on 13 November 2015.
The event commenced with Pooja and blessings conducted by Shivasiri Ramanada Kurukkal. During his address Ramanada Kurukkal appreciated the High Commission for celebrating all important cultural and religious events observed in Sri Lanka.
Acting High Commissioner, Sugeeshwara Gunaratna welcomed the participants and mentioned that values inherent in the celebrations of Deepavali such as the triumph of good over evil, wisdom over ignorance and triumph of hope over despair were universal. They were applicable to the Sri Lankan context where the whole nation was in the process of rejuvenation and reinvigoration. He readout the Deepavali messages of H.E. the President and the Hon. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
The cultural events included Bharatanatyam as well as vocal and violin performances by students of the Arts School of Gnanalayas, Ananthalayas Music Academy and Sakthi Fine Arts in London.
Around 150 members of the Sri Lankan community in the UK attended the event. At the end of the event, traditional Deepavali sweets and a vegetarian dinner was served.
